Sports Funding

The government has given extra funding to schools to be spent on sport in school.

The aim is to increase sport provision for children and also to improve the quality of the provision they receive.

The total amount of Sports Grant received for 2018-19 is £22,000.

Danegrove Primary School is committed to providing high quality sport experiences to all of its students in competitive and non-competitive environments in order to develop a love of physical activity that will lead to embedded healthy lifestyle choices.

With the help of The Barnet Partnership for School Sport, Danegrove strives to ensure all its students are active and healthy and that they enjoy sport. This aim is driven by passionate leadership from the Headteacher Mrs. D. Metcalf and the P.E subject leader Mr. N. Mckellow.

In April 2013 we welcomed the Government’s announcement of extra P.E. funding. This funding is being used to widen the range of sports that children can participate in at school and to increase the expertise of all staff members delivering P.E. to the children.

PE Premium Funding 2014-2019

As Danegrove is a 3 form entry school,we receive £22,000 per year in additional funding for P.E. and sport.

We have used Funding in previous years to:

  • Train all teachers in the delivery of high quality gymnastics. This was achieved by a 2 day INSET from Kim Henderson a highly respected P.E. advisor

  • Join The Barnet Partnership for School Sport which provides opportunities for pupils to participate in a variety of inter school competitions across the year including football tournaments for all year groups, netball league, cross county events, athletics meetings and other events.

See: http://www.barnetpartnershipforschoolsport.co.uk/content/about-us/10167/bpss-the-board for more details.

  • Collaborate with East Barnet Secondary School to provide mentoring and training from P.E. specialists for our teachers. The collaboration also provides extra facilities for our students to use including tennis courts, cross country/ BMX track and large sports hall.

  • Provide a free athletics club for 90 students after school to promote an active lifestyle and contribute to the Olympic Legacy.

  • Hire specialist staff to focus on the provision of sport across the school.

  • Providing an early morning club for Foundation and Year 1 students in which active and healthy lifestyles will be encouraged from an early age.

We use the funding to continue with the work started in previous years and to extend our sports programme throughout the school by:

  • Providing lunchtime football clubs for all children so that they can have an active play time  whilst learning the principles of fair play, teamwork, sportsmanship, respect and determination.

  • Professionally developing members of staff further by providing qualified sports coaches to deliver focussed sessions that assist in planning, delivering and assessing high quality P.E lessons.

  • Train Meal Time Supervisors to deliver active and enjoyable lunchtimes for pupils.

  • Creating Sports Leaders in the school (Year 6 children) who will be trained in delivering sports activities for other students. These students will then use their skills to create a more active school.

  • Using our links with East Barnet Secondary School we will embark on a series of opportunities for children to experience a range of sports eg. mountain biking, sports hall athletics, gymnastics etc. The most able of the children identified in these sessions will then be given the opportunity to develop their skills further in focused clubs or extra sessions.

  • Train specialist staff to deliver PE across the school.

Danegrove is committed to providing a wealth of opportunities for its children to experience healthy and sporting activities and the PE funding has been wonderful in helping us achieve this.
