Welcome to the Year 6 page!
We hope you have had a wonderful summer with your families. We can’t wait to welcome our new year six pupils back to school for their last year at Danegrove. We know it has been quite a while since most of you have been at school; some of you may be feeling anxious and others excited.
Over the first few weeks, we will be supporting our pupils in settling back into school and adapting to new routines and changes. Our focus will be on the children’s mental and emotional wellbeing and in class we will be exploring topics such as friendships, dealing with worries, feelings about being back at school. If there are any particular worries that your child may have, remind them that they can approach a teacher or another member of the Year 6 team to raise their concern.
Initially, we will identify potential gaps in the children’s knowledge and understanding in order to begin an academic recovery for lost time at school. This will include both informal and formal assessments. Much like in Year 5, the children will start the day with Arithmetic and Maths, followed by English and Destination Reader. Across the week, in the afternoons, they will have P.E, Art, Music, Spanish, Computing, Science and Integrated Studies lessons.
We have been busy preparing our classrooms and the school for the children’s return and we will be working hard to create happy, safe and comfortable, yet challenging learning environments for our pupils.
We are looking forward to seeing you all and having a fantastic start to the term.
Year 6 Team.
