After School Clubs

After School Clubs at Danegrove

Here at Danegrove we’re proud to offer a variety of after school activities and clubs.

At Danegrove Primary School, we pride ourselves on providing a variety of Extra Curricular sport Clubs. Our aim is to develop children’s skills, knowledge and understanding in a fun and safe environment. The majority of our clubs are delivered by our own staff to ensure a high quality and standard in each session. Some of the clubs offer fantastic external opportunities to represent the school in matches, tournaments and festivals against other schools. Please read on to find out further information about our clubs or contact the school at office@danegrove.barnetmail.net.

Football

Our football after school clubs are designed to encourage our children of all abilities to developskills and have fun in a safe environment. Our clubs are delivered by FA-qualified coaches andinclude basic techniques, drills, fun games and small sided matches.

Music

The school has a fine tradition of providing additional musical opportunities for its pupils.  We have an Arts Co-ordinator, who is responsible for co-ordinating music throughout the school.  Tuition is provided for groups of children learning recorders and many of our pupils from Year 3 upwards benefit from instrumental tuition for woodwind, brass and string instruments.  There is a school choir, orchestra and ensemble and musical concerts are a regular feature of school life.

A charge is made for tuition provided by our peripatetic teachers.  Such charges may include sheet music, administration costs, insurance and instrument hire.

Table Tennis

We aim to introduce table tennis through a progressive range of fun and innovative table tennis related lessons and activities. Our coaching sessions are designed to meet the needs of all students regardless of their table tennis knowledge.

Multisports

Our Multi-sport club is open to boys and girls of allabilities. The club introduces young participants to the fundamentals of sport.Coaching sessions aim to improve ability, build confidence, and emphasize theimportance of sportsmanship whilst maintaining a realistic perspective of competition.

Orchestra

The School Orchestra has been in operation for many years. Currently run by Mrs Burling. The Orchestra practise each Friday lunchtime, they perform at various events across the year.

Choir/Glee Club

Our School Choir, Glee Club, is run by Catherine Gallantine, our Music Leader. Mrs. Burling teaches recorder and runs the school orchestra. Children also have the opportunity to learn musical instruments with visiting teachers.

  • Glee Club - any child in Years 5 and 6 may join this choir. The choir meets on Monday afternoons

  • Instrumental tuition - children may learn to play guitar, violin, cello, trumpet, trombone, descant recorder, flute, clarinet and saxophone

The annual 'Summer Music Concert' in July involves the pupils who are learning a musical instrument at school as well as performances from our Wind Band, String Ensemble, Steel Band, and Recorder Groups.

Glee Choir performs at the 'Barnet Music Festival' in July. They also perform at the Spires raising money for the Hospice and various other Retirement Homes in the local area.

Spanish

The Spanish Club has been running after school for many years. Ms Del Rio teaches the children a range of Spanish songs, conversation starters and useful phrases. Ms Del Rio also teaches full time at the school...principally Spanish!

Tennis

Our tennis classes aim to teach everyone the core skills required to play tennis successfully. Our sessions focus on the following themes including Introduction toTennis, coordination and agility development, basic shot production and progressive learning throughout each session.

Jems Club

Natalie Green currently attends our Ridgeway Avenue site and delivers Junior Exercise and Movement to children in Foundation and Year 1. Children learn the ability to express power which is considered to be one of the main determinants between successful elite athletes and sub-elite athletes.

Street Dance

Dance Wright offers fun, energetic and dynamic dance classes to schools across North London and Hertfordshire. We teach all elements of Street dance to the latest songs and old school classics. Lots of opportunities to perform and be part of this thriving dance school. All teachers are highly trained and qualified in their genre, bringing the students the best dance training ever.

STREET DANCE classes every Friday at Danegrove School. Visit our website www.dancewright.co.uk or email info@dancewright.co.uk for more information.

Chess

There has been a Chess Club at school for many years run by a range of teachers and volunteers.

Drama

The Drama Club at Danegrove School has been running for over 10 years.  Chantelle works with the children on building their confidence and skills through; drama games, warm ups, vocal work, creative storytelling, building characters and improvising and performing stories. The children become great team players when taking park in the Acting Up Drama Club and they also learn how to create and perform their own stories.

Athletics

In nec commodo lectus. Sed non leo vel odio placerat eleifend. Nunc commodo dui neque, a pulvinar leo gravida sed. Praesent massa nunc, tristique quis auctor id, faucibus non sem. Pellentesque molestie magna eu nunc eleifend condimentum.

Recorder Club

Children from Years 2-6 have the opportunity to learn to play the recorder.
We have three groups which are based on the ability to play rather than the child’s age. The first group ‘Beginners’ is for children who have never picked up a recorder before. They will learn how to play a descant recorder and how to read music at the same time. ‘Happy Players is the next step, where we learn more notes and continue practising reading music. We start to play music in two parts, which helps understand how music works and sounds amazing! ‘Sight Readers’ is the most advanced group and children need to be able to read music to join this group. We enjoy playing challenging music in several parts and can also look at the treble and tenor recorders.

It is better for children to have their own descant recorder so that they can practise at home (5 minutes a day is fine for a beginner). The lessons are free but children are expected to turn up every week as they will not progress if they do not.

Music is a fabulous skill to learn and playing in groups with friends is great fun and very rewarding. Learning to read music gives children an advantage if they wish to take up another instrument.
